Plastics

Plastics are among the most processed of materials. Every day we encounter traditional plastic products; a life without plastic is now practically unimaginable. From the ball-point pen, which we pick up several times a day, to household appliances or even aircraft components, there is practically no limit to the use of plastics.
Properties such as moldability, elasticity, chemical resistance, formability and low density make plastics extremely versatile.
Microstructured plastics are increasingly gaining in significance in this context. Building upon intrinsic materials properties, SuSoS Technology conjures up further functionalities that can be easily applied to a given article, thereby bringing it to life. Advantageously, the optical properties remain unchanged.
Due to their chemical resistance, many plastics are inert and therefore difficult to bond. The adhesion of plastics to each other is a challenge that needs to be solved. In this context, SuSoS adhesion solutions are growing in importance. Even the most challenging plastics—such as PTFE or silicone—show marked improvements in adhesion with SuSoS’ adhesion promoter. Enhanced by SuSoS technology, surface functionality can be optimized on demand. In this day and age, having things be “easy to clean” is a must. Particularly in areas such as hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, restaurants or in the packaging industry—where hygiene rightly has top priority—easy-to -clean surface functionality is crucial.
SuSoS' surface solutions can be used in many different fields. Whether you want hydrophilic or hydrophobic functionalities, our know-how, combined with the precision of our work, will allow us to implement any of your ideas. Simply tell us what you need!
Metals
No other material has such a major impact on the world’s economy. Metals vary in their price, their appearance and in their properties such as gloss, hardness and toughness, good ductility and thermal and electrical conductivity.
SuSoS surface technologies can extend this range of properties to include other intelligent functionalities, and can bring the product to life without changing its intrinsic appearance.
The broad spectrum of enhanced properties that SuSoS AG can provide includes corrosion protection, adhesion improvement, increased lubricity, anti-adhesion and dirt resistance. These effects can be beneficially used for all metalworking industries such as machine construction, tooling, medical devices, plant components, and furniture.
The reduction of deposits and friction, the possibility of easier cleaning, and the reduction of harmful waste all result in reduced downtime, shorter production time, and thus higher productivity.
A hot new topic is "anti-finger-print" technology. This useful coating adds value to products ranging from metal facades and automobile parts to chrome-plated decorative items. “Easy-to-clean” reduces tedious cleaning and helps make everyday chores easier.

Ceramics
Ceramics are often underestimated. Technical ceramic materials can yield combinations of properties that in many respects can simply not be achieved by other materials.
Viewed from the electrical point of view, ceramics provide very good insulating properties and dielectric strength. Mechanically speaking, ceramics can offer good wear resistance, hardness, and dimensional stability. Ceramic materials also provide resistance to high temperatures. Finally, ceramics are highly resistant to corrosion and compatible in contact with food products.
Ceramics play an important role in various industrial sectors. Crockery, implants, jewelry and bathroom appliances are just a few areas in which these versatile materials are used.
SuSoS technology is already so far advanced that it can also impart exceptional surface features to ceramics. Ceramic products with dirt-resistant or bacteria-resistant properties are particularly useful in the medical industry. This group of materials can also play a major role in coatings with non-stick or adhesion-promoting properties.

Glass
Materials which are referred to in everyday life as “glass” (for example, drinking glasses and windows), represent just a small fraction of the world of glass. Although it is one of the oldest materials known to man, most consumers are unaware of its many properties and possibilities.
The material combines positive and useful properties such as transparency, chemical stability and resistance to deformation. These properties make glass so universally applicable that it can be processed and turned into any of the following: packaging material for food products, beverages and cosmetics; innovative fiber-optic cables for data transfer; or practical glass-ceramic cooktops.
Depending on the requirements, SuSoS’ surface treatments can build on these material properties for the benefit of the consumer: a few examples are anti-adhesion, anti-fingerprint or anti-fog coatings.
Whether for outdoor or indoor use, glass can be easily treated with SuSoS’ surface solutions. These dirt-repellent, anti-fog or bacteria-resistant surface technologies find their use in many sectors, including the medical and packaging industries.
